On this Friday, August 23, 2019, the new nominations from the President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, for the Administrative Council of Economic Defense – Cade were published in the Official Gazette. For the vacancies of counselors – Luiz Augusto Azevedo de Almeida Hoffmann, Luiz Henrique Bertolino Braido, and Sérgio Costa Ravagnani were nominated. In addition to the counselors, Lenisa Rodrigues Prado was appointed to the position of Cade’s chief prosecutor, and Alexandre Cordeiro Macedo, Cade’s current general superintendent, was nominated for another term.
After the withdrawal of the previous nominations, Cade’s court has been without quorum to hold trial sessions, which suspended all procedural deadlines provided by Competition Law. The new nominees will now have to go through questions asked by the Senate committee and must be approved by the House Plenary.
