On July 19, a decree was published in the Official Gazette transferring the Superior Council of Cinema of the Ministry of Citizenship to the Civil House of the Presidency of the Republic. During the event commemorating 200 days of President Jair Bolsonaro’s government, the move was announced.
The agency is responsible for the elaboration of the national cinema policy, for the guidelines of the development of the audiovisual industry, and for promoting the presence of Brazilian content in the market. This also changed the structure of the Council, which now has fewer members and will not have representatives from the Ministry of Economy in its composition. According to the President, this change seeks to “strengthen the link and foster public policies.”
Furthermore, at the event commemorating 200 days of the President’s government, he said that he intends to move the National Film Agency to Brasilia. In this form, the government intends to be closer to the decisions regarding the use of public money in financing the productions of audiovisual works.
